 | 19 Aug 22:39 In the prior edition of my review, I covered the first half of the first issue of Flex Authority. However, as I said in that review, this issue is so full of content that it couldn't possibly fit into a single review. In this edition we will cover articles by Charlie Key, Theo Rushin Jr., Lief Wells, Johnny Boursiquot, Giorgio Natili and yours truly.Synchronous SQLite Database Queries in AIR by Charlie KeyCharlie gives a good overview of handling synchronous database operations in AIR and SQLite. 19 Aug 07:34 No new releases and five updates this week. Doing a search of my blog it would appear that the last time I posted about no new releases was in December of 2006 - is that possible? Anyway, it is the end of marathon birthday weekend in the Rinaldi house today with my birthday (16th), my son Sam's (17th) and my wife's (today, the 18th). Thankfully we have a couple week break before my older son's (Sep. 2) because I have had my fill of cake. New Releases and Updates BlogCFC BlogCFC 5.9.1. 16 Aug 03:43 Thanks to Judith Dinowitz, I received an advance PDF copy of The Flex Authority, the new Flex-focused quarterly journal by the people behind Fusion Authority Quarterly Update, Fusion Authority and House of Fusion. Jeffry Houser of the Flex Show podcast is the editor of the new journal. The first issue is set to be released at 360Flex which starts next week and I have an article in it on Nahuel Foronda and Laura Arguello's Mate framework for Flex. We all know that my article will be outstanding (hey! 12 Aug 09:52 Four new projects and six updates this week. I am struggling with a dead 3 month old MacBook Pro today, which is why this post is happening so late. Basically, my MB Pro would crash regularly and this morning it crashed and wouldn't turn back on. Thankfully my local authorized repair shop got a seven day repair done in a day - well, not quite done but my laptop is working or, as I like to consider it, undead. Unfortunately my newly undead laptop can only come out at night. 9 Aug 01:29 This coming Monday Gert Franz, CEO of Railo, will be presenting Railo to the Boston CFUG (for meeting details go here). As many of you already know, Railo announced that they were partnering with JBoss and going completely open-source (LGPL2). You can see the full announcement on Sacha’s Weblog. As part of this arrangement, Railo and the JBoss community will be working on integrating other JBoss services such as JBoss Cache, Hibernate and JBoss Messaging. 31 Jul 01:49 This is part of the ongoing series I introduced in my prior post. I would love to hear from other open-source developers as to whether they agree/disagree with my analysis. So you've decided to join the world of open-source software developers; welcome! As you may or may not realize, there are a lot of things to consider when open-sourcing a project. It isn't simply a matter of setting your code free into some anarchic void. 30 Jul 05:50 Tomorrow I plan on posting the first in a series of posts devoted to helping people who may be considering open-sourcing a project of theirs or even those, like myself, who jumped into open-source without much planning. Originally this started as an article devoted to open-source using Adobe technologies like ColdFusion and Flex but, in the end, almost of the considerations ended up being language-neutral. 29 Jul 05:50 One new project and two updates this week. A light week in terms of new or updated projects but a lot of announcements and a good amount of tutorials and reviews came out (plus my last update was late making this a short week). There has been a lot of posts and discussion around several projects lately, especially Mango Blog, ColdBox and Transfer. Seems like these projects have garnered an active and vocal community of users, which is especially good for POSS projects like ColdBox and Transfer. 29 Jul 03:27 Continuing my series of posts that review App Store apps specifically with iPod Touch in mind, today we review Super Monkey Ball by Sega. My son has Super Monkey Ball for the GameCube, Wii and Nintendo DS, so we are clearly fans of the series (though the Wii version stinks to be honest). If you are a fan of the series you will likely enjoy the iPhone/Touch version. 25 Jul 04:01 This is a guest post for my Good Enough to Touch series by Kyle Hayes, a fellow blogger on advanced web development / RIA technologies and techniques. Uploaded with plasq's Skitch! In a response to Brian Rinaldi's post Good Enough to Touch? Apps for the iPod Touch, I've decided to compose my first guest post - a review of the new Texas Hold'em game offered on the recently released App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch owners. | | |
